Practice
A brief introduction to my studio practice
Summer 2023
I was fortunate enough to take a trip to Paris in August, and made a pilgrimage to Musée de l'Orangerie. Back when I worked at the Cleveland Museum of Art, I used to visit ‘our’ Waterlilies painting on my break sometimes. Being there though, in l'Orangerie, the space they were painted for, in that perfect light, and being completely enveloped by them, was something else.

Working on a series of paintings exploring both inner and outer landscapes
I begin most studio sessions with expressive mark making using charcoal, pencil or ink. I find this helps me to be present and reconnect with what’s inside. This is a technique I explored at Emily Ball’s Summer School in 2022.
Winter 2022/23
Mixed media pieces made with painted papers sit alongside early stage oil paintings in the studio.
When it became too cold to be in my shed / studio, I brought my work inside began a series of small collages using painted papers created earlier in the year.
Works created at Emily Ball’s Summer School, Walk the Land. These pieces were created based on sketches made in the landscape observing sound and movement.
